Let's save the World!..

Environmental problems are becoming a big issue in today's life around the world. It affects not only our physical environment but as well as our political, economical, social, emotional, psychological and moral aspect of our society. Definitely, all those problems like global warming, pollutions, scarcity, certain diseases related to unhealthy environment, et., are all caused by humans. For there are some humans who do not care at all for the environment; instead, they only think of their own interests like power, wealth, personal happiness, fame and success. There is no one to blame on this life threatening issue but we, humans because we are the only creatures who are capable of reasoning, hence called rational beings. We were given by our Deity God to think of the possible consequences of our actions and most especially, we have our own moral judgment which is our conscience that guides us to do what is right.

A lot of factors have caused this problem. First, the abusive attitude of men which implies discontentment and dissatisfaction despite all those possessions wherein many illegal acts are being done such as unstoppable cutting and burning of trees even those young ones, using dynamites when fishing, hunting animals which are not permitted, burning of plastics, emission of dangerous gases like methane and carbon monoxide by certain factories, etc. Second, the dramatic increase of our population which can limit and slowly destroy the natural resources if proper preservation and care are not practiced. Thus, it will result to scarcity and pollutions. Third, the love for material things which urges humans to do bad things and become selfish in which we know is just superficial and temporary in this world. All these negative attitudes and practices will certainly put our Mother Nature into peril. Furthermore, for every action, there surely is a corresponding reaction and we are already harvesting now what we we have sown. To prove this, the global warming is one which is the the expected slow, gradual warming of the lower layers of the earth's lower atmosphere by the slowly increasing concentrations of man-made greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide, and to a lesses extent methane. Many countries nowadays have experienced this too much heat in our atmosphere and Philippines is not free of this. In addition, due to the effects of global warming, the GMA News Network had reported last Dec. 26, 2008 the dramatic increase of dengue fever, typhoid fever, and cholera in many parts of the country. In the report, Dr. Shegiru Omi, outgoing regional director of WHO Western Pacific Region in Sept. had said that global warming would expand the range of mosquitoes that carry malaria and dengue to areas other than their natural South-East Asia habitat.

In this scenario, it merely shows that humans are the suggestive chief susupects and victims of those environmental crimes. Some would hardly admit their mistakes and weaknesses because of great ego and fear to be punished by law but in some sort, nobody could escape the vengeance that our Mother Nature could give to those abusers and insensitive men. Moreover, all living things we see in our environment have the right to live and be respected because they too, are creations of God. Therefore, it is very important that we must love, care and preserve them for it is our moral duty as a man.
